"... as I stepped onto the trail, flooded from the downpour of the previous three days, I could sense the presence of someone else. I scanned from side to side, stopping often to peer behind me. I quickened my pace, wanting to turn back but finding myself too deep into the forest to do so. Only a few more minutes and I would emerge on the other side, away from the forest. Water stood inches deep as I quickly splashed my way along the bottomland trail. And then I saw it. A light. Dim at first. Then quickly growing more brilliant. As the light grew, a hum filled my head. I panicked. I ran. Looking back I lost my footing and careened, shoulder first, into the muddy water.
